South Football Update

South Football Update

One thing on the mind of many young people all across the country is sports. In some select states and places they have allowed their high school sports seasons to go on, but at South us football players are itching out of our jeans to get on a field and beat the opposition. Until then there are only workouts to build the team stronger and wait til it’s that time. With Corona being the reason we cannot play, workouts are looking more different than ever. Here is some insight on how Football Season/Workouts are going and how some players are feeling.

So the main person I wanted info from was our head coach, Coach/Mr.Marini. I asked him some brief questions about how things were going and how he feels about the future. I asked him how it was going so far, he said “It’s going pretty well all things considered, we have had about 80 kids working out.” This is a very strong number especially with this pandemic 80 kids consistently is awesome. He also told me “Many of the coaches have been getting tested on a regular basis.” I then asked how this season has been different from any other regular year. Now from past experiences workouts in the summer we all meet in the weight room and get in an hour of just lifts and then we go outside for another hour and do our conditioning and start working on plays. Now this year I have not been present yet because I have had a cast on because I have a fractured wrist, so he told me “Everything has to be outside and we are limited to 1 hour and 30 minutes a workout.” Final thing I wanted to ask was how he was feeling about getting back to games eventually. He said “Nervous, but we still got 3 months till our first game so hopefully the pandemic gets better.”

Now for the players it is a huge difference too. Their first day in pads is not going to be until February 25th. Personally I play middle linebacker, so I wanted a fellow middle linebacker’s opinion. So I asked our Varsity starting middle linebacker Elijah Lopez or Elo, how football is going in his opinion. He said “Football is going good right now we had a lot happen to our team this summer but have bounced and are working hard and everyone is so hungry.” Then I wanted to know what are the worst things about how it’s going. He told me “The worst thing about it right now with covid going on is that the rules make it hard to just play football so we have to come up with different ways to practice, we don’t got no weight room and got to do lifts outside and we are limited at practice.” One last qauestion I also had to ask him was how do you feel about getting back into games. Finally he told me “I can’t wait to play games. I think the time off has everyones competitive fire going so it should be fun.”

Now at the end of the day I have not even been going but I am so eager to get back on the field in them pads and make that first contact. Football is a contact sport and every single play your making contact. You’re lucky if you can make it untouched and if you didn’t touch nobody you better be the one with the ball trying to get away. With the covid football at South has looked different for everyone but everyone is still there because we all love this game and will do whatever we have to do to just play.
