Holiday Gifts

Kennedy Torrez, Journalist

It’s that time of the year again: the shopping season. Christmas is right around the corner, which means tons of gifts. However, it’s always a struggle buying gifts for you friends and family. Knowing what to get them, having enough money to get everyone something, and making sure they know the gift comes from the heart is important in gift-buying. Here are some tips to think about when you go shopping this year:

  • Make sure whatever you get them comes with a heartfelt card.

Even if you’re not sure if the person will like the gift you got them, take the time to pick out a good card to go with it. Also don’t just get the card and sign it, but write them a nice note that way they know you took the time to work on something cause you care about them.

  • How do you know what to get someone if they won’t tell you what they want?

This tends to happen a lot: you ask someone what they want and they just respond with nothing or I don’t know. Then your stressed trying to figure out what to get someone and hoping they will like what you choose. Here’s something you can do, this year instead of asking them what they want pretend you already got something and ask them to guess what it is. Most likely they will guess things that they have really been wanting and then you have tons of ideas on what to get them. If this still doesn’t work and they guess things that you can’t afford or are impossible to get I suggest getting them a gift card or a gift that can be returned.

  • What if you have a lot of gifts to get but don’t have enough money?

A lot of people find themselves in the same situation as you by the time the holidays roll around. One thing you can do is instead of buying a lot of gifts you can home make something. It cost a lot less to just make something from home then it does to buy it. If your not sure what to make I suggest cookies. There are great holiday cookie recipes online and there not hard to make. The only thing you need to do is buy some holiday tins to put them in( can be found at the dollar store) and the ingredients. There also supper fun to make and don’t take a lot of time.

If you’re not someone who is really into making stuff and you prefer buying stuff that’s fine too. There are tons of things you can do to spend less money, like instead of buying gifts in store order them offline. Or go to a store that’s not as expensive and hunt for gifts in there. There are also tons of sites online that you can go to that will give you good ideas on what you can get that isn’t that expensive. For example:

Gift shopping can be hard; hopefully these tips have helped you out , no matter what you end up getting though always remember don’t get it last minute. Last minute shopping can be extremely hard good gifts go fast and are more expensive on an actual holiday. Also if you are planning on shipping a gift and you wait till last minute it might not get to your destination until a couple days after the holidays. Happy Holidays!
