Dear Reader,

It’s October and school and activities are in full swing. There’s sports practices, club meetings, seven classes to keep track of, homework, family responsibilities, and plans with friends. So how do you balance everything? Here are eight tips to fit everything in and help with time management:

  1. Stay on top of everything. It helps to make a To-do list with top priorities listed first. Make sure you know what’s going on in each class and stay on top of classwork. Don’t wait until the last minute! If you have a missing assignment, try to talk to your teacher or complete it as soon as you can. Staying on top of everything will help you do better in school and make you feel less stressed.
  2. Plan ahead. Try to look at your schedule often and plan ahead for each day. Using a planner can be super helpful for staying organized and avoiding procrastination. Knowing what will be due each day can help you prioritize classwork and homework and stay caught up.
  3. Take a break. Make time for yourself often. With so many things going on, it is important to have some down time. Do something you enjoy or something that takes your mind off everything.
  4. Go to bed earlier. Don’t stay up late to fit everything in. If you know you have a lot of homework one night, try to break it up throughout the week. Getting enough sleep is super important in staying healthy so you don’t miss school and fall behind, and it will make you feel better too. You will be less stressed and more able to manage your time well if you get more sleep.
  5. Don’t try to do it all. If you really can’t do something, don’t. Cramming everything in will leave you more stressed with less time to do the things you really need to do. It’s OK to turn down plans and take time for yourself. As you get better at time management, you will easily be able to fit more activities in.
  6. Ask for help. Don’t try to do everything on your own. Ask people for help! Your friends, teammates, or classmates are probably going through the same thing. Working together can help make work and activities more fun.
  7. Use your time efficiently. Avoid distractions and use as much class time as you can to finish the classwork so you don’t have homework. Weekends are good because you can use them to catch up, take time for yourself, and plan for the week ahead.
  8. Stay positive! Life can be stressful with everyone going on but remember to stay positive. That way, you’ll see the fun in things and time management will be much easier.

Good Luck, The Gargoyle
