Safety of Students on Public Transportation

September 20, 2017

Public transportation is frequently used by South students which can be hazardous, thus it is very important to be safe. Here are a few tips on how to be careful, safe trip home.

1.Find RTD information

2.Plan your trip

3.Find your bus stop

4.Verify your route and board the bus

5.Pay your fare

6.Get off on your stop

Strangers are one of the risks that come with riding any public transportation. Being cautious about the people around you is a good thing. Always remember to keep all your belongings close and in sight. Do not talk to strangers or give them any personal information. As a part of riding public transportation, you have the option to ignore and avoid certain people if you feel unsafe as some people do not understand how to respect others’ privacy and belongings. If someone tries to engage in conflict, remove yourself from the situation. If you ever feel threatened, report it as soon as possible as there are always people you can go to for help, regardless of your location. As long as you are being respectful and cautious of your neighbors, you will have a peaceful and safe trip home.
